Short Update: BNP Trail Work Day and Elections

Hey everyone! This is just a short update on the goings on from today. A full update will be posted in the next 24 hours or so once we have all pictures rounded up and I’ve had a chance to wash all the dirt off!!

SORBA and the Boy Scouts work together on the trail!

First off I have to give a HUGE shout out to the boy scouts that were at the trail today! Over 20 great scouts came out and just knocked out some trail work today. Without them we wouldn’t have been able to make nearly as much progress! Over 20 scouts came out and worked very hard today. I think that they did an amazing job! Greg was working in front of them with the excavator and couldn’t work fast enough to give them work to do.

In addition, we had 15 volunteers over the course of the day. Total that makes the largest turnout for any workday we have had so far and we got a tremendous amount of work done. We aren’t done with the beginner trail yet, but by the looks of it we expect the trail to be complete by the end of May at the latest.

Elections

A quick update on the election side of things. Greg Brinson remains President, Austin Fenwick remains Vice-President. Bryan Weinkle has moved up to Treasurer and Jay Pearce is now the new Secretary for the club. There was much more that we talked about at the meeting including some outreach programs we want to kickstart soon and some fun events.

I’ll give you a hint what those might be. You get to hit these berms here really fast…

Berm action!

See you on the trails everyone! More information coming soon!

Get ready to get dirty at the workday tomorrow!

In Honor of the workday tomorrow at the Brunswick Nature Park, I figured that it would be good to give us a little fun motivation to go out and build stuff! Ladies and gentlemen, its time to get DIRTY!

SEE YOU AT THE PARK!

Reminders: Upcoming events

Hello everyone! This is just a reminder of a few upcoming events.

First, we have the big workday/club meeting that is scheduled for this Saturday at the Brunswick Nature Park. The workday will run from 9am to 5pm and we will be building the new beginner trail! Please bring rakes and shovels. Additional tools will be provided by Cape Fear SORBA.  Remember to bring food for the day if you are planning on being out there all day. Don’t worry about it if you can only be out there for a few hours to! We would be happy to have you for as long as you can help! It all will help make this trail amazing!!

The workday will be followed by a club meeting with elections for the new year at the top of the agenda. The club will provide Hamburgers and Hotdogs but we need you to help us out by providing side dishes to supplement the meal!

DIRECTIONS
If coming from Wilmington, follow the signs across the bridge for US 17N/US 74. Take the exit for State Route 133/Southport/Oak Island and make a left off the exit ramp. Go approximately 7 miles and you will come to the Brunswick County Nature Park on your right. Enter the park and drive all the way to the very back where you will find a round parking lot across from a covered picnic shelter. That is the parking lot we will begin our day in. If you come later in the day someone will be stationed at either the parking lot or the picnic shelter to direct you.

CCORS Blue Clay Race April 17th

The other reminder is that on April 17th we will finally host out first race of the CCORS race series at Blue Clay! Details can be found at ecvelo.org.

The club is looking for volunteers for the event as well! We need people to help with timing, parking, event setup, and to be course marshals. Please email with the times that you are available to help to austincycles@gmail.com. It would be greatly appreciated!

We are hoping for a huge turnout folks, so don’t disappoint! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me!
