Weekend Recap: Earthday and 5th CCORS Race!

Corey and Austin hang out at the Earthday Fest booth.

Hello everyone! Another wonderful weekend in Cape Fear SORBA land with our first of many outreach events as well as the 5th race in the CCORS series! So who wants to recap? You in the back? Ok lets recap then!

So first on Saturday CFSORBA had our first of many outreach events as we had a space at the EarthDay Festival at Hugh McRae park! Special thanks go out to Corey and April for their hard work in making that happen. They put together the entire event from idea to putting the booth together. So thanks for all your hard work! We gave out alot of information and we continually got alot of surprised looks when we told people there was mountain bike trails in this area. I guess thats what happens when you live so close to the coast!

Moving on to the 5th race in the Coastal Carolina Off-Road Race Series! We had another strong turnout, 68 people to be exact. This time we had a great turnout of kids racers, 8 total, to compete for bragging rights in our wonderful kids race! Want to see what that race was like? Well friend of the club Jeff LeBlanc took video of the kids that i am happy to post right here!

Congrats to all the kids racers for their great effort!

Now onto the adults shall we! The adults of course were tense and ready to go once the 2pm start time finally arrived.

Racers mass for the start

They certainly couldn’t help themselves! The course was as fast as I have ever seen it…and i would know, I raced it! Sadly I couldn’t seem to keep myself off of the ground for the first half lap! Here are a few more pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Don Brown hauling! Go Don Go!

Eventual 1st place finisher Armando gives us his best…well i dunno what he was doing!

If you want to see all of the photo’s from this race (thanks Jeremy!) you can view them below

Don’t forget now everyone, the last race in the series is May 22nd in Havelock NC at the Piranha Pit! Come out and race and you can see the Cape Fear SORBA team take home the championship for the team classification! Thats right all you other teams, that bad boy is coming home with us this year!

Also, there is a workday scheduled for May 14th at the Blue Clay Trail starting at 8am. More info via Barry Wray coming soon.

See you on the trails.

Weekend Events: Earth Day Fest at Hugh McRae and Race Series at Blue Clay!

Hello everyone happy Thursday! A couple of events coming up that I wanted to share with everyone if you were not already aware!

First of all Cape Fear SORBA is proud to announce the first of many Outreach events that we are planning for now until the fall! Our new pump track coordinator Corey, club member April, and eventually myself will be out at Hugh McRae park for the Wilmington Earth Day Celebration this Saturday! The festival starts at noon so come out and check out what we got going on and ask questions! You can pick up our new brochure with a calender of events inside as well as try and win some gift certificates to Two Wheeler Dealer! We will also have club t-shirts on sale at our booth! For more information on the Earth Day Festival you can click here. Look for more information about cool upcoming events in the next week or so while we iron out a few details. Hopefully we will see you on Saturday!

However if you can’t make it Saturday we also have something going on at Blue Clay on Sunday!! The 5th race in the Coastal Carolina Off-Road Race Series of course! Come help out, race, or just watch the fun as we put on the 5th race in the series! Team Cape Fear SORBA currently leads the team point standings so we need some fans to come out and cheer us on folks! We can wrap up the Team Championship with a strong showing this weekend! Want more information about the race series? Click here! By the way, if you want to help out with the event you can email me at austincycles@gmail.com!

I hopefully will see some smiling SORBA faces this weekend, its going to be a blast folks!

See you on the trails,

Austin Fenwick
Vice-President Cape Fear SORBA

Volunteer Update: Still need a few more!

Ok folks still need some help this weekend at the Blue Clay Race. We need a few people willing to help out at the road crossing, parking, and a few other things as needed. If you are willing to help please email me at austincycles@gmail.com

In addition…

We still need two or three more volunteers to help out for the Duathlon on Sunday May 15th.  If interested please email Jay @ pearce.jay@gmail.com.
This is an excellent opportunity for the club to raise some money that can be used to work on trails, purchase tools, and other stuff that we want to do within the club.
thanks!

See you on the Trails!

Austin

CFSORBA Volunteer Opportunity May 15th.

In addition to asking for Volunteers for the May 1st Race at Blue Clay we have another event that we could use some help with. This time its not our event but its a great event for us to help with. The club receives a donation for volunteering at this one! Details below! This information comes from Secretary Jay Pearce.

Atlantic Orthopedics Duathlon at Brunswick Forest – Sunday May 15th

Cape Fear SORBA has been asked to help out with the Atlantic Orthopedics Duathlon which will be held at Brunswick Forest on Sunday May 15th.  I have been in contact with Ed Fore, and he has requested that we have at least six volunteers to help out with his event.  Three volunteers will be located at a key location on the course, and three others will help out at the transition area.  In exchange for the members of our club volunteering their time, Ed will make a donation to our club.

Please contact me by phone or email if you are interested in helping out with this event.  I need to let Ed know by next Friday (April 29) how many volunteers we will be providing.
