2013 CCORS-Info
The Coastal Carolina Off-Road Series (CCORS) is a Cross-Country (XC) Mountain Bike Race Series from February to May 2013. This will be the 14th year of the series. In 2012 there were over 500 entrants from around eastern North Carolina who traveled to the CCORS events. This year we have schedule 6 races to be held in Greenville-NC, Jacksonville-NC, Myrtle Beach-SC, and Wilmington, NC.
CCORS is a volunteer run series where all money raised is used to enhance and maintain the mountain bike trails used by the participating clubs. The clubs involved are ECVelo of Greenville, CFSorba of Wilmington, DEC of Jacksonville, and the Waccamaw Trail Builders of Myrtle Beach. The goals of the series are to make quality mountain bike racing available to riders in Eastern North/South Carolina and to raise money to improve trail systems in our region.
We want to say thanks to the following corporate sponsors who are investing in th 2013 race series. Their sponsorship is an investment to the their local bike clubs and local biking communities.

Results Based Upgrades:
- Any rider who either won his/her category last year OR won two (or more) races MUST upgrade to a higher category this year.
- Riders from the CCORS 2012 series who will need to advance to a higher category for 2013 are: Eric Sjoerdsma, Eric Stover, Mike Gloss, Bill Sessoms, Greg Brinson, Dan Decker, Barry Wray, Rob White, Joe Brake, Alex Borroto, David Lennard, Jeff Williams, and Justen Wynant
- The women’s class is exempt so all women (including previous class winners) wishing to race in the women’s class can do so.
- Upgrading can include moving to a category that races a longer distance OR moving to a more competitive category at the same distance (i.e. Beginner 35+ to Beginner).
- The goal of this is to encourage fair competition in all classes.
- Note: if you did not podium for any individual race last year you may downgrade this year.
- Any riders who would like to be exempted from their mandatory upgrade should contact Barry Wray at WRAYB@UNCW.EDU.
Team Competition:
- Any 5-8 riders can make up a team. (Note: Cape Fear SORBA is the Defending Series Champion for the past 2 years!)
- Each rider can be a member of only one team.
- Teams must be declared by the third race of the season (Jacksonville, 3/17/13) – email team rosters to wrayb@uncw.edu.
- The top 5 riders from each team will “place” at each race.
- Team with the most points at the end of the season will win the overall team award.
- The winning team will receive the team trophy for the year along with all requisite bragging rights.

- Bonus points
- Riders attending 5 series races will earn 2 bonus points.
- Riders attending 6 series races will earn 4 bonus points.
- Bonus points will apply to final point tallies for determining the overall series podiums and prizes.
- Series podiums
- In order to place on the series podium a rider must enter at least 4 races in a given category (you do not need to finish 4 races, i.e. you can DNF and still place, although this is unlikely).
- Best 4 finishes (plus any bonus points) are used to calculate overall series points.
- Overall ties will be resolved based on next best place in 5th race and then (as necessary) by head-to-head race placing.
- Any class that does not have at least 3 riders competing in at least 4 races may be determined ineligible for overall series prizes.
