WORK DAY REMINDER: BRUNSWICK COUNTY NATURE PARK 12/11/2010

I would like to remind everyone about our Second work day at Brunswick County Nature Park.

Date: Saturday December 11th
Time: 9:00 to 4:30

Notice: Last week we were told by Brunswick County Parks Dept. that every worker must be a CFS member because of the County’s insurance stipulation. However, there may be a way to allow non-CFS members to work this weekend by signing a waiver form from the Brunswick County Land Trust. We are waiting for confirmation from the Parks Dept. on this…I’ll send another email as soon as we know something.

Location: Hwy 133 seven miles South of Leland, near Orton Plantation Gardens.

What to Bring: Lunch, water, rakes, shovels bush axes, machetes, work gloves, bug spray

Questions: email me at gregb@brinsonandsons.com

If you can only stay a few hours that is fine, all help is greatly appreciated. The club will have some tools there. Hope to see you Saturday.

Thanks

Brunswick Nature Park Trails Planning Meeting on 2/4/2011

From Kirstie Dixon, Brunswick County Planning:

Attention Brunswick Nature Park Trails Stakeholders & Partners:

Mark your calendars! We will be holding the Brunswick Nature Park Trails Planning Meeting on February 4, 2011 at 2pm at the Brunswick County Government Center.

Brunswick County has partnered with organizations and the Brunswick Nature Park is coming a long way! Over the next few months you will start seeing formal biking and hiking trails and the restrooms should be operational. This meeting will be held to finish laying out/designating all the various trails (hiking, greenway, biking, equestrian) in the Brunswick Nature Park so everyone can move forward and start building trails.

As previously discussed, it is vital to get all trail stakeholder groups together around the same table to work out the final layout of the trails since some of the trails will have to be multi-use trails. In the meantime, I encourage you and your stakeholders groups/organizations to really look at and discuss what you feel your future needs for trails will be at the Brunswick Nature Park. You may even want to sketch out a proposed trail routes. The following are items you should consider:
How well can my trail type be integrated with other trail types? Pros/Cons?
How much mileage of trails are needed to be successful?
How many trails are needed for your type of trail?
Does your type of trails have any special requirements/needs?
Is there a variety of degree of difficulty for the trails needed (beginner, intermediate, etc..)?
Any trail requirements (width, surface, etc…)?
Is there a way we can incorporate a children’s trail or children’s area into the trail?
What type of destinations (f any?) can be along my trail type?
What are some proposed routes.
More information about this important meeting will follow after the first of the year!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns.

Thanks,

Kirstie Dixon
